Code Enforcement Officer/Building Offical

The City of Purcell will be taking applications for a full time position for the Code Enforcement Officer/Building Official. 
 
  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPOSIBILITIES:

  • Handles complaints from the public and inspects public nuisance without a complaint, physically investigates and inspects public nuisances in the field concerning but not limited to, weeds, trash, debris, junk, abandoned vehicles, and dilapidated structure, neglected property, and other public nuisances.
  • Conducts field inspections of commercial, residential, industrial, and other properties and/or structures to ensure compliance with applicable codes pertaining, but not limited to, weeds, trash, debris, junk or abandoned vehicles, and dilapidated structures.
  • Periodically patrols or inspects an assigned area to monitor for violations of local codes.
  • Meets with owners, tenants, contractors, developers, businesses, etc. to review and explain code requirements and violations or potential violations: secure code compliance.
  • Drafts and distributes official abatement notices, dilapidated structures, door hangers, etc.
  • Contacts property owners in person, by phone, or in writing concerning possible code violations and requirements to correct violations.
  • Maintains accurate records of inspections, violations, enforcement actions, and correspondence with property owners.
  • Issues building permits.
  • Inspects buildings and other structures to insure compliance with local regulations and ordinances.

Qualifications

- High School diploma or GED equivalent - Must pass a background check. - Must possess a valid State driver's license prior to employment. - Two years experience related to inspection, law enforcement, building inspection, land use, public administration or any combination of education and experience. - Must be able to pass a drug screen and physical. 

Special Requirements

Tools and Equipment Used: Personal computer, motor vehicle, office/cell phones, copy and fax machines. Physical Demands: Work is performed primarily in field settings. May occasionally lift or move 50 pounds. Employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
