Water & Sewer Operator I

The City of Purcell is currently taking applications for Water & Sewer Tech I.  This position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work.  Operates various equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water and sewer facilities and systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water mains, hydrants and gate valves.
  2. Flush water mains, hydrants and sewers.
  3. Repair and test motors.
  4. Assist in the operation of a pumping station or water treatment plant equipment.
  5. Tap and inspect new service connections.
  6. Investigate consumer complaints.
  7. Respond to complaints regarding water leaks and pressure loss or no water, and evaluate situation.
  8. Perform custodial duties at the pump stations & water treatment plant.
  9. Assist in the cleaning, testing, installation, and repair of water meters.
  10. May be assigned to read meters as necessary.
  11. Dig ditches and holes.
  12. Inspect manholes to determine condition and locate stoppages.
  13. Service, adjust, and make minor repairs to equipment, machines and attachments.
  14. Perform related tasks as required.
  15. On Call when required.  

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

- Motorized vehicles and equipment, including pickup truck, flush truck, saws, pumps, hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, and mobile phone.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: - High school diploma or GED equivalent - Valid Driver's License - Must be able to pass a drug screen and physical - Must pass a background check

Miscellaneous Information

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Often required to work non-traditional working hours which include weekends, holidays, and nights. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, run, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, controls, or tools. Must be able to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
